SALISBURY BANK SUPPORTS THE HOUSATONIC VALLEY ASSOCIATION
Lakeville, CT - June 24, 2010

GROUP TO PUBLISH RIVER GUIDE

Dennis Regan, Berkshire Program Director, HVA
Georgann Farnum, Sheffield Branch Manager, Salisbury Bank
Lynn Werner, Executive Director, HVA
Salisbury Bank recently made a donation to the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) which provides the last piece of funding necessary to produce a guide to all the parks and historic sites along the Housatonic River; from it's headwaters just north of Pittsfield, Massachusetts through Kent, Connecticut. This section of river is designated as a National Heritage Area. "This designation is significant" states HVA Executive Director Lynn Werner, "because it is recognized for its historic, cultural and environmental resources and attributes."

HVA is also working to create five safe river access sites that will assist the public in getting onto and off the river comfortably and safely. One such site will be located just behind the new Salisbury Bank Sheffield Branch, near the Sheffield Covered Bridge located off of Route 7 in Sheffield, Massachusetts.

"The Housatonic River is a vital resource to our area both from an economic and recreational standpoint. Salisbury Bank is proud to support an organization that works hard to keep our natural habitats protected", states Salisbury Bank President and CEO, Rick Cantele

Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) originally established in 1941 and located in Cornwall Bridge, CT monitors the entire 2,000 square miles of the Housatonic Watershed, in 83 towns from Massachusetts to Long Island Sound. Their ongoing mission is to conserve the natural character and environmental health of our communities by protecting and restoring the land and waters of the Housatonic Watershed. Through volunteer efforts, HVA is able to patrol streams, clean up shorelines and solve water pollution problems. The organization has been able to save more than 5,000 acres of farmland, wetland, forest and riverfronts. To find out more about the ongoing efforts of the HVA, please visit their website at www.hvatoday.org.
