When Salisbury bank decided to launch the “GIVE initiative,” encouraging customers to help out community food programs, they had no idea how successful it would prove to be. In just a few short months, the program raised $3,725.00 for five local programs.

The concept was simple. Salisbury Bank encouraged customers to sign up for paperless e-Statements, in return for which the Bank would make a $5.00 contribution to a local food pantry. Customers who signed up by July 31, 2011, and viewed an e-Statement by September 15, 2011 were automatically qualified for the donation.

“If you do the math,” Salisbury Bank President/CEO Rick Cantele notes, “that’s 745 folks who decided to help out their neighbors, while they make their own lives easier.” He observes that switching to e-Statements during this initiative gave customers instant access to their accounts 24/7 and reduced paper waste, while benefiting people who may be experiencing hard times.”

“We were very gratified by the enthusiastic support our customers gave to the program,” says Cantele. “We thank them, and the food programs thank them. The help couldn’t have come at a better time.”

The initiative benefited five programs in the area: the Owl’s Kitchen in Lakeville, Fishes and Loaves in Canaan, Millerton Food Pantry  in Millerton, Center of Compassion Food Pantry in Dover Plains and Sheffield Food Assistance Program in Sheffield.
