Identity theft has become one of the fastest growing crimes in America. According to Javelin Strategy and Research, during 2011 identity fraud increased by 13% claiming more than 11.6 million victims. This unauthorized access to your personal information is used to open new financial accounts or access your existing accounts, enabling thieves to steal your money or charge items on your credit card, leaving you with the bills.

Salisbury Bank is helping in the fight against identity theft while building community goodwill by sponsoring five Community Shred-It Days.

“Many people believe that identity fraud occurs only when a wallet is stolen or private information is given to unscrupulous parties over the Internet. But a confidential statement in the trash, stolen mail, or a photocopied ID card is a first step to identity theft and a point of vulnerability for almost all of us. With this information, an identity thief could open the door to your bank and investment accounts, order new credit cards, and maybe even get a mortgage in your name.”stated Rick Cantele, President and CEO at Salisbury Bank.

Cantele continued, “If piles or boxes of documents have accumulated in a corner of your house or office, I invite you to shred the documents you no longer need at one of our convenient Shred-It days. Paper shredding and recycling services like ours help you responsibly and safely dispose of sensitive documents.”

Each person may bring up to 4 boxes of paper per person (paper only; no binders) for shredding by Shred-It personnel to any of the locations listed below from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

  • Saturday, May 19, Sheffield Branch, 640 North Main Street, Sheffield, Mass
  • Saturday, June 23,  Lakeville Branch, 5 Bissell Street, Lakeville, CT
  • Saturday, July 14, Canaan Branch, 100 Main Street, Canaan, CT
  • Saturday, August 11, Millerton Branch, 87 Main Street, Millerton, NY
  • Saturday September 15, Sharon Branch, 29 Low Road, Sharon, CT

This service is brought to you by Salisbury Bank, as a way of giving back to the communities they serve. All shredded paper will be recycled.
